Why Better Health?

“Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

 by The World Health Organization

This powerful definition from the World Health Organization resonates deeply with our ethos at BLUMORPHO. We recognize that true health extends beyond medical care to encompass social, environmental, and economic factors. That’s why our Better Health initiative takes a comprehensive approach, emphasizing the interconnectedness of various health determinants.

  • 1 in 2 people in the world with little to no access to diagnostic testing
  • 1 in 5 people in the world at risk of cancer in their lifetime
  • 1 in 2 people in the world not covered by essential health services.
  • $12,5 Billion investment needed in Digital Health
  • In 2019, 97% of Hospital data was considered as unused.
  • 13 million of deaths each year are caused by avoidable environmental risks.

With half the world lacking access to essential health services, the need for innovative solutions to contribute to universal health coverage has never been more urgent. BLUMORPHO is dedicated to addressing this challenge through our Better Health initiative with the « Health in remote areas » and HOLICARE projects.

We embrace creativity and entrepreneurship as fundamental drivers of positive change in the health sector.

Together, Let's Shape the Future of Healthcare

“Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” – World Health Organization At BLUMORPHO, we firmly believe that true health goes beyond just medical care, extending to social, environmental, and economic factors. This holistic view is the foundation of our Better Health initiative. We understand that health is interconnected with various determinants, and we are committed to creating innovative solutions that address the global health challenges we face today.

Currently, half of the world’s population lacks access to essential health services, and many people struggle with preventable health risks. 1 in 2 people globally have little to no access to diagnostic testing, and 1 in 5 are at risk of cancer in their lifetime. Moreover, 13 million deaths annually are caused by avoidable environmental risks. In addition, $12.5 billion in investment is required to advance digital health, while 97% of hospital data remains unused, representing a massive, missed opportunity for improving health outcomes.

In this context, the need for innovative and inclusive healthcare solutions has never been more urgent. BLUMORPHO is committed to addressing these challenges through initiatives like Health in Remote Areas and HOLICARE, which focus on improving access to healthcare in underserved regions. We believe that creativity and entrepreneurship are essential drivers of positive change in the healthcare sector, helping to ensure that quality care is accessible to all.

What’s Next to Invest in HealthTech?

What’s Next to Invest in HealthTech? is part of our Better Health 2025 initiative, designed to:

  • Align investment opportunities by gathering decision-makers to identify challenges and key priorities in AI, TechBio, and HealthTech.
  • Launch targeted innovation challenges, focusing on infectious diseases, health sovereignty, and new frontiers like brain health and neuroscience.
  • Strengthening local ecosystems and value chains to empower emerging markets and facilitate strategic collaborations. Ensuring startups and innovators connect with relevant stakeholders for financing, partnerships, and deployment.

Through this initiative, we bridge the gap between cutting-edge solutions and real-world adoption, strengthening ecosystems and fostering sustainable health innovations.

Holicare Project

BLUMORPHO recognizes the importance of equitable access to healthcare and is actively involved in the HOLICARE project which aims to develop decentralized medical diagnostic devices for respiratory diseases, with the goal of providing healthcare access to all, particularly in resource-limited settings. Central to the success of HOLICARE is our close collaboration with renowned institutions such as the Institut Pasteur of Dakar, Makerere University & MSF Epicenter, Armauer Hansen Research Institute and Mbarara university of science & technology, in Africa. Critical also to the success of HOLICARE is the technological transfer that should be implemented with European research and technical Organisations such as Hahn-Schikard, Mast Group, Istoc, Kungliga Tekniska Hoegskolan, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm institute, Teeside University and Global Access diagnostics.

By leveraging their expertise and resources, HOLICARE contribute to the efforts of African countries to reinforce their sovereignty and ensure that these innovative diagnostic solutions are accessible to communities across Africa, supported by funding and grants from the European Union.
